Biography:
Ivan Vanko, portrayed by Mickey Rourke, is the main antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Iron Man 2 (2010). This version of the Whiplash character is a composite of elements from the comic book Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo.
Vanko is a Russian physicist and ex-convict seeking revenge on Tony Stark and the Stark family. His father, Anton Vanko, co-created the arc reactor technology with Howard Stark but was later deported to the Soviet Union.
Driven by resentment, Vanko builds his own arc reactor-powered weapons, including the Whiplash Mk II suit. This advanced suit features two energy whips capable of slicing through metal and causing significant damage.
In Iron Man 2, Vanko collaborates with Justin Hammer to create a series of drone armors to challenge Iron Man but ultimately is defeated and killed during the movie's climax.
